GM'S OLYMPIC DEAL WITH NBC AND USOC ANNOUNCED THIS WEEK?

GM is "expected" this week to announce an extensive
Olympic sponsorship deal with NBC and the USOC "that would
run into the next decade," according to Richard Sandomir of
the N.Y. TIMES. According to sources close to the deal, the
three parties "are still negotiating the full value of the
sponsorships" in terms of the commercial TV time, fees to
the USOC, promotional spending and products contributed by
GM. Sandomir writes that "when totaled up, this is likely
to be the largest sports sponsorship ever." One of the
largest is the current five-year $250M deal between Coca-
Cola and the NFL. GM, NBC and USOC officials all declined
comment. IMG Senior VP Barry Frank: "Considering the
competitiveness of the car market, this is good for G.M.
     It's far-sighted marketing" (N.Y. TIMES, 7/28).
