COLANGELO'S DESERT DREAMS? OWNER PROFILED IN USA TODAY

D'Backs & Suns Owner JERRY COLANGELO was profiled by
Bill Meyers in the cover story of today's USA TODAY sports
section under the header "Colangelo Expects Lots of Green in
Desert." Colangelo, on the new Bank One Ballpark, and
owning an MLB team: "The game is much more than signing
players. The difference is in the details." Meyers: "And
by sweating the small stuff in the stifling heat of Arizona,
the Diamondbacks CEO believes he can make big money in
baseball." Colangelo has sold 34,000 season tickets and
booked "nearly" $500M in advertising and marketing packages,
which means the D'Backs will gross more than $100M in '98,
which Meyers writes "should be one of the top four financial
performances in the major leagues." Padres CEO Larry
Lucchino said the D'Backs "are going to have a cash register
in the desert." Colangelo, on his business philosophy:
"Filling seats, getting things sold is what it's about" (USA
     TODAY, 7/24).
