STADIUM NOTES

          Hennepin County, MN, "tentatively entered into the
     Twins ballpark debate" when county commissioners introduced
     a resolution offering county-owned land on the Minneapolis
     riverfront for a proposed baseball stadium.  The move was
     "timed to indicate that the board wants to be part of
     stadium discussions" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 7/23). 
     ....Ground was broken on the Pacers' new 19,000-seat arena
     on Tuesday (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 7/23)....Raptors VP/GM
     Isiah Thomas said he's had "a few" discussions with Leafs
     Owner Steve Stavro about the "possibility of a joint venture
     since the Leafs' Union Station proposal died last week"
     (TORONTO STAR, 7/23)....Homestead, FL, Mayor Tad DeMilly has
     called a special City Council meeting today "that could
     result" in NASCAR President Bill France Jr.'s ISC "becoming
     a major partner in Miami Motorsports" with promoter Ralph
     Sanchez and Wayne Huizenga (MIAMI HERALD, 7/23).
