ONE STEP FRUM OWNERSHIP WHILE BEESTON PONDERS FUTURE?

Murray Frum's Canadian group trying to buy the Blue
Jays "believes it has been given interim purchase approval"
by MLB, according to Jim Byers of the TORONTO STAR. MLB
owners came to a decision to "let Frum's group have a look
at the Jays' books." Frum said that "getting approval to
see the Jays' books is tantamount to interim approval."
Frum: "We'd been told that approval was imminent" (TORONTO
STAR, 6/13). In Toronto, Bob Elliot: "Another indicator
that Frum's group has proceeded farther is that the
ownership committee did not give Rupert Murdoch permission
to examine the books" of the Dodgers (TORONTO SUN, 6/13).
BEESTON UPDATE: In Toronto, Jim Byers reports that "a
source close" to Jays Owner Interbrew SA says team President
Paul Beeston has told them he will leave to become MLB's
COO. Beeston told Byers that, "I haven't decided what I'm
doing ... [but] The job intrigues me" (TORONTO STAR, 6/13).
