MEDIA NOTES

          In N.Y., Michael Starr writes, "NBC is hoping to
     improve on last year's U.S. Open ratings" which averaged a
     3.6/12 over four days.  In '95 the network averaged a 5.0/17
     over two days.  According to published reports, a 30-second
     ad spot on NBC sold for $125,000 (N.Y. POST, 6/12).
     ..Classic Sports Network (CSN) has entered into an agreement
     with various collegiate rights holders and CBS to air a 17-
     game package of the greatest college football games ever
     played as part of its "Phi Beta Classics" college sports
     series in August (CSN)....American Sports Classics (ASC) is
     airing a Black Canyon Productions documentary on the life of
     former Pirate Roberto Clemente, scheduled to premier in
     December (ASC)....In Baltimore, Milton Kent, on NBC's NBA
     commentators: "Marv Albert has been remarkably solid.  A lot
     of people would not have been able to function given the
     problems that he has faced.  Matt Guokas has been brilliant
     as an analyst, and Bill Walton's wacky third-man-in shtick
     has worn thin" (Baltimore SUN, 6/12).
