TIGER NIKE LOGO AIMS TO BRIDGE A GAP WHERE EAST MEETS WEST

Nike unveiled the logo for its line of Tiger Woods
products last evening at an event in Washington, DC. Nike
says the "ying-yang inspired design features arrows pointing
east and west in red and black colors, celebrating Tiger's
diverse heritage." CNN's Lou Dobbs: "To some, it may appear
to be what's left after cutting out two Nike swooshes. You
make the call" ("Moneyline," CNN, 6/10). In Washington,
Kathy Orton: "The red, black and white logo is oval-shaped
and contains two arrows, which Nike says represent the
coming together of the golfer's Eastern (Asian) and Western
(African-American) backgrounds, his 'love of competition,
and his unique balance between the physical and mental
aspects of the game'" (WASHINGTON POST, 6/11).
BRING YOUR VISA: SI's "Scorecard" notes that the All-
Star Cafe, of which AmEx endorser Tiger Woods is a celebrity
owner, does not take AmEx credit cards (SI, 6/16 issue).
