WILL MSG'S CONTROL OF HARTFORD CIVIC CENTER ALTER ABL PLANS?

The AHL Board of Governors approved the sale of the
Binghamton franchise to MSG, and the transfer of the
franchise to Hartford, CT (AHL). As previously reported,
MSG will now produce certain events at the Civic Center, and
operate concessions, sales and marketing. John Altavilla of
the HARTFORD COURANT writes that "for now," MSG will
"operate concessions and parking while the future of Ogden
Entertainment Services as building manager is determined."
With the MSG deal, "it became apparent to [ABL Blizzard GM
Pam] Batalis that securing prime dates for her basketball
team might be compromised by MSG's ownership of the WNBA
Liberty." The Blizzard played eight of their 20 regular-
season games in Hartford last year. Arthur Diedrick, CT
Development Authority Chair, said that incentives in MSG's
deal with the state are sufficient to ensure the "well-
being" of the Blizzard. Diedrick: "No one wants to cut off
their nose to spite their face" (HARTFORD COURANT, 6/11).
