FINANCIAL TIMES EXAMINES GREAT BRITAIN'S SOCCER MARKET

          The business of professional soccer in Great Britain
     has been "dramatically altered" due to rising income from
     the sale of TV rights, sponsorship, advertising,
     merchandise, corporate hospitality and gate receipts,
     according to Patrick Harverson of the FINANCIAL TIMES. 
     Especially for top clubs, the prospect for profit growth
     "looks good," particularly if the eventual introduction of
     PPV on digital TV proves popular with the public.  The
     attention of investors has created a "rush" of clubs to join
     the stock market, with 15 teams currently listed on the
     market, up from five in '96.  Among the factors that
     "sparked the rush" were the clubs' need to fund the
     redevelopment of stadiums, the purchase of players in an
     increasing salary market and the growth of commercial
     activities (FINANCIAL TIMES, 4/29).
