SIMONS SAY THEY WILL GIVE MORE FUNDS TO PACERS ARENA

With a new arena "closer to reality," Pacers Owners
Melvin and Herb Simon have agreed to advance an additional
$600,000 to continue design and architectural work on the
project, according to Kathleen Johnston of the INDIANAPOLIS
STAR-NEWS. The Capital Improvement Board, which overseas
the city's sports venues, is "expected" to accept the new
design money when it meets today. The Simons advanced the
board $1.4M in January to begin work on the arena project
     (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 4/30).
TAX TALK: Also in Indianapolis, the City-County Council
"appears ready" to approve a package of tax increases
proposed by Mayor Stephen Goldsmith. Goldsmith wants to
raise the hotel-motel and auto rental taxes to pay for a
$40M expansion of the Indiana Convention Center and a
possible remodeling of the RCA Dome (STAR-NEWS, 4/30).
