FRUM SAYS HE WANTS BEESTON IN TORONTO, BUT IS IT TOO LATE?

Murray Frum said he does not intend to be a "day-to-day
president" if his group obtains controlling interest of the
Blue Jays and SkyDome from Belgium-based Interbrew,
according to Bob Elliott of the TORONTO SUN. While Frum was
"reluctant" to discuss the progress of his group's bid, he
did say he hoped "someone like [Blue Jays President] Paul
Beeston or Paul Beeston himself will handle day-to-day
operations." Frum: "Paul and I met within the past six
weeks. ... I made it clear we hoped he would stay. Paul
said he would consider it" (TORONTO SUN, 4/16). But the
GLOBE & MAIL's Marty York cites an MLB owner as saying that
Beeston's departure from Toronto "looks very likely, more
likely than ever," and that he "would not be surprised" if
Beeston accepted a position at MLB headquarters in New York
"within the next 10 days." The source added that he has
received information that current CFL Argonauts President
Bob Nicholson "already is being prepared" to take over as
president of the Blue Jays (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 4/16).
