KEMP AND VECSEY CONTINUE TO SPAR OVER DRINKING ALLEGATIONS

The Sonics' Shawn Kemp denied a report by Peter Vecsey
that Kemp was having "some difficulty" with alcohol. Vecsey
made his remarks on the "NBA on NBC" on Saturday and in his
Sunday N.Y. POST column. Kemp said Sunday on NBC that,
"I've never even had a taste for liquor. I was so surprised
to hear that" ("NBA on NBC," NBC, 4/13). According to John
Lopez of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE, Kemp said that "he already
has contacted" attorneys and "asked to investigate legal
action against both Vecsey and NBC" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE,
4/14). Vecsey, on the "NBA on NBC" on Sunday: "I'm standing
by the story that he did tell his teammates that he has a
problem with drinking, but for the public consumption, Shawn
continues to say what he wants to say" ("NBA on NBC," NBC,
4/13). In this morning's N.Y. POST, Vecsey writes under the
header "Kemp Swims In Denial," that Kemp and the "Seattle
Enablers can deny their All-Star forward is drinking too
much (or worse) all they want, but his body and his behavior
are betraying him" (N.Y. POST, 4/15).
