TWINS STADIUM BILL RECEIVES COMMITTEE APPROVAL

The Twins stadium bill was "revived" in the MN House
Local Government and Metropolitan Affairs Committee
yesterday after a week of "furious lobbying," according to
Whereat & Weiner of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. Moving
the bill to the House Tax Committee "significantly improves"
the chances that it will be presented before the House. The
bill continues to calls for Twins Owner Carl Pohlad to
contribute $50M "up front" to the construction of a $400M
retractable-roof stadium, an amount described as a "deal
breaker" by Jim Pohlad, one of the owner's sons. Among
amendments to the bill includes one limiting a 10% sales tax
on logo merchandise to Twins merchandise if sold outside the
stadium. All pro sports merchandise sales inside the
stadium would be taxable (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 4/10).
