CINERGY LOOKS FOR SYNERGY WITH IRL SPONSORSHIP

Cincinnati-based electric utility company Cinergy Corp.
will pay $350,000 to sponsor an IRL car driven by Lyn St.
James, according to Bill Koenig of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR-
NEWS. The sponsorship will only cover the Indianapolis 500,
but Koenig notes, "Still, the announcement represents some
good news for the Indianapolis-based IRL, which is
struggling for vital sponsorship dollars." St. James will
drive for Hemelgarn Racing, which also operates a car driven
by Buddy Lazier, the '96 Indy 500 winner. Cinergy is the
primary sponsor on St. James' car and a secondary sponsor on
     Lazier's (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 4/8).
