HOLLYWOOD GIVES A LITTLE GOLD TO THE WORLD OF SPORTS

          At last night's Academy Awards, CUBA GOODING JR. was
     awarded Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Cardinals
     wide receiver Rod Tidwell in "JERRY MAGUIRE."  Host Billy
     Crystal, on the "Show Me The Money" phrase:  "It's the most
     overused catch phrase since 'Where's the Beef?'"  Crystal,
     previewing the Best Actor nominees:  "I love this category,
     they're all damaged guys: You got a burnt guy, mentally
     challenged guy, mentally abused guy, paralyzed guy, agent. 
     And four out of the five are treatable."  The Oscar for Best
     Documentary Feature went to "When We Were Kings."  MUHAMMAD
     ALI and GEORGE FOREMAN received a standing ovation as they
     took the stage during the acceptance speech.  DENNIS RODMAN
     was in attendance and accompanied Vivica Fox from
     "Independence Day" ("Academy Awards," ABC, 3/24).
