ESPNET SPORTSZONE PREPARES TO OFFER DAILY PAYMENT PLAN

ESPNET SportsZone today is expected to "become the
first major Web site to let viewers pay for service on a
daily basis," according to Rebecca Quick of the WALL STREET
JOURNAL. SportsZone will offer the $1 daily access option
in conjunction with Internet billing company CyberCash Inc.,
and anticipates the "micropayment" option to "lure viewers
who wouldn't normally spring for a subscription, including
folks who might want to see a particular event." Rich
LeFurgy, VP/Starwave Corp., says a micropayment option lets
the company "explore whether people are interested in coming
in just for a day." SportsLine USA and new partner CBS said
they are also "considering ways to incorporate micropayments
into its service" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 3/17).
