FRANCHISE NOTES

In Akron, David Adams interviewed Ravens Owner Art
Modell. Adams writes that "as much as he wants to put his
past behind him, Modell, 71, is keenly aware of his legacy.
He desperately wants people to like him." Modell to Adams,
on the interview: "Make me look good, OK?" (AKRON BEACON
JOURNAL, 3/16). In a separate piece, Adams notes that it's
"increasingly likely" that Cleveland's new team will be an
expansion franchise. Potential owners include Indians Owner
Richard Jacobs; MD financier Alfred Lerner; former long-time
Browns minority owner Robert Gries and former Brown Bernie
Kosar. Cleveland Mayor Mike White said "about six" other
inquiries have been made (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 3/16)....In
San Diego, Entertainment & Licensing Int'l Ltd. purchased the
CISL Sockers from Arena Group 2000. The purchase price "is
believed to be less than $200,000, although the owners say
that figure is inaccurate" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE,
3/12)....Courtside seats for the WNBA Liberty will be $150,
with other prices set at $75 and $45 (N.Y. POST, 3/16).
