The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) is
officially changing its name to Professional SportsCar
Racing, Inc. The new name and the brand name of the
sanctioning body, which will be called SportsCar, will be
unveiled today at a press conference in Sebring, FL, along
with a new logo (SportsCar). Professional SportsCar Racing
and parent company IMSG CEO Jack Long was profiled by Holly
Cain in the TAMPA TRIBUNE under the header "Interesting Time
To Watch." Cain: "If there's one thing this series needs,
it's probably some marketing, some attention. The racing
has been good, it's been competitive. The trouble's been
getting the fans out and getting a television package."
Long: "I think the results at Daytona, the large field is
really indicative that sportscar racing isn't sick, that
it's doing fine, thank you" (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 3/12).
UP IN SMOKE: Molstar Sports & Ent. President Brent
Scrimshaw, on Canada's Bill C-71 which limits tobacco
marketing, said yesterday that the Molson Indy races in
Toronto and Vancouver are not "totally dependent" on
sponsorship from Imperial Tobacco's Player's brand and
"could survive without it" (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 3/14).
