CONVERSE SET TO ROLL OUT DR. J 2000 WITH NEW AD CAMPAIGN

          The new Dr. J 2000 30-second national TV spot and a 15-
     second teaser were unveiled Wednesday at Julius "Dr. J"
     Erving's 47th birthday party hosted by Converse at the
     Motown Cafe in New York.  The teaser breaks Saturday, the
     day of Erving's birthday, and will run for a week on MTV,
     ESPN, BET, Classic Sports Network and NBA programming.  The
     30-second spot breaks on February 28 and will run on the
     same national media for four weeks, plus in ten major spot
     markets.  The spot features a combination of highlights from
     Dr. J's career, overlaid with "'70's style" animation.  The
     ads will feature the Stevie Wonder hit "Higher Ground."  The
     shoes hit retail on February 28.  The ads were created by
     Houston Herstek Favat, Boston.  Animation and production was
     done by Rocketship Int'l, Vancouver (Converse).  
          HOUSE CALL: Erving will be on hand to launch the Dr. J
     2000 at the Footaction USA store in Irving, TX.  Footaction
     will present Erving with a star on the Walk of Fame that
     runs through the store (Footaction USA).
