SPORTS REVENUES SHOW THE BIG GAIN IN NETWORK SALES

Despite erosion in prime time audience, ABC, CBS and
NBC closed out '96 with "solid revenue gains, due in large
part to double-digit growth generated by sports and the
Summer Olympics." ABC, CBS, and NBC reported a 3.7%
increase in gross revenues over the fourth quarter of '95,
according to figures from the Broadcasting Cable Financial
Management Association and compiled by Ernst & Young.
Sports posted a final-quarter increase of 13%, or nearly
     $70M. Sports also had the most-favorable year-to-date
numbers for '96, including a 45% increase in gross revenues
to $2.6B, an $800M gain over '95 (BCFM). Note: This does
not include the Fox network or its coverage of the World
     Series (THE DAILY).
