USA BOXING OWES USOC $1.3M FOR BAD GRANTS

          USA Boxing officials "have agreed to repay $1.3 million
     in U.S. Olympic Committee grants that were improperly
     applied for or incorrectly accounted for since 1989,"
     according to Mike Spence in the Colorado Springs GAZETTE
     TELEGRAPH.  USA Boxing President Gary Toney and USOC Exec
     Dir Dick Schultz will negotiate on a repayment schedule. 
     Schultz: "It is vital that our grant process and its system
     be credible and properly handled by our national governing
     bodies."  Spence notes the $1.3M total is "by far the
     largest" by any NGB; the previous high was $160,000 by the
     Amateur Softball Assoc. in '92 (GAZETTE TELEGRAPH, 2/20).
