SPANOS READY TO BUST A MOVE IF STADIUM CONSTRUCTION HALTED

Chargers President Dean Spanos said the team will move
its entire '97 home schedule to the Rose Bowl if a Superior
Court judge halts construction at Jack Murphy Stadium next
Thursday, according to Barry Bloom in the SAN DIEGO UNION-
TRIBUNE. Spanos said he and Rose Bowl President Al Moses
have an oral agreement, and a contingency contract should be
signed by next week (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 2/14). San
Diego-based Qualcomm Chair Irwin Jacobs has offered to "make
a deal with the city that would resolve the funding
controversy and put the high-tech company's name" on Jack
Murphy Stadium (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 2/14).
SUPER BOWL: The NFL has adopted a contingency plan to
hold the '98 Super Bowl at the Rose Bowl if it becomes
necessary to move the game from Jack Murphy (Rose Bowl).
