MEDIA NOTES

News Corp. Chair Rupert Murdoch is lobbying Congress
about allowing his planned satellite-TV system, ASkyB, to
offer network programming and local stations. Some
satellite operators, like Echo Star, are "supportive," but
DirecTV "isn't on board," because "it doesn't have the
satellite capacity to carry much local programming and could
be at a competitive disadvantage" (BUSINESS WEEK, 2/10
issue)....NEWSDAY's Steve Zipay notes if Bill Parcells
doesn't return to coaching next season, "it isn't a lock
that he'd return to television." Zipay: "Some broadcast
executives expressed interest yesterday, but they aren't
exactly knocking down the door to rent him for a year"
(NEWSDAY, 2/1). In Boston, Howard Manley notes Parcells has
a "credibility problem" as he "once misled the media" on air
about his contact with the Bucs in '91 (BOSTON GLOBE, 1/31).
