          The Toronto GLOBE & MAIL released its fourth annual
     List of Power and Influence in Canadian sport.  The '97 list
     "continues to reflect the importance of hockey in this
     country."  The Bruins SHELDON KENNEDY topped the list
     followed by Blue Jays President PAUL BEESTON and NHL
     Commissioner GARY BETTMAN (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 2/1).... 
     WAYNE HUIZNEGA and his auto venture AutoNation USA are
     profiled by Donald Nauss in the L.A. TIMES (L.A. TIMES,
     2/2)....MIKE TYSON will hand out special homework kits to 20
     Harlem students in third and fourth grade and their parents
     as part of his homework program, which is designed to get
     students and their parents more involved in the educational
     process (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 2/3)....GHADA SHOUAA, who won the
     heptathlon at the '96 Games to become the first Olympic gold
     medal winner in Syrian history, is featured in BUSINESS
     WEEK: "Despite Shouaa's celebrity, there is no marketing
     machine here for athletes. ... Today, Shouaa's world is
     controlled more than ever by the state. ... [But] despite
     the lack of endorsements or talk-show invitations, Shouaa
     makes out just fine" (BUSINESS WEEK, 2/10 issue).
