MLB NEWS & NOTES: JOSE, CAN YOU SAY MORE A'S TICKET SALES?

Following Jose Canseco's return to Oakland, the A's
reported that they sold more tickets last Monday than they
had on any single day in the previous three years, then
topped that mark each of the next two days, according to
Gordon Edes in the BOSTON GLOBE. Billboards in Arizona,
where the team trains, will show Canseco with the phrase,
"He's Back." The team's slogan for the season, done by an
in-house creative director, is "Be There When it Happens
Again" and "Powerball" (BOSTON GLOBE, 2/2).
NOTES: Although the second day resulted in far fewer
complaints, the first day of the Yankees' Fan Festival "made
for a testy gathering" with fans complaining about long
waits to get in the building, waits for autographs, and too
few players in attendance (N.Y. POST, 2/2)....The Padres
have sold the equivalent of 8,000 full-season tickets for
this season, the most since '92, the year the Padres hosted
     the All-Star Game (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 2/2).
