          The N.Y. DAILY NEWS' Mitch Lawrence reported that Larry
     Bird will take over as Celtics' GM by the June draft (N.Y.
     DAILY NEWS, 2/2)....Heat President of Business Operations
     Jay Cross was profiled in the MIAMI HERALD.  Cross, who was
     originally the team's arena consultant, on his new job: "It
     wasn't possible to segregate the arena development from the
     marketing of the team.  Now, we have merged the two together
     so we can operate as one entity" (MIAMI HERALD, 1/31)....The
     Brewers' public sale of game-worn apparel sold 130 jerseys,
     74 warmup jackets and 51 batting helmets, bringing in an
     estimated $30,000-35,000 (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL,
     2/2)....The Bucs said Friday that a report in Sports
     Illustrated which indicated the team had switched their logo
     to a skull and crossbones is incorrect.  The team has been
     looking at changing its logo and uniforms, but nothing is
     finalized yet.  The team has said it will unveil its new
     look this spring (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 2/1)....The Lightning
     introduced their alternate third jersey.  It will be worn
     six times this season.  The jersey has the same color scheme
     as the regular jerseys, except it will have yellow streaks
     of lightning on the lower sleeves (ST. PETERSBURG TIMES,
     1/31)....According to a report in the WASHINGTON POST, the
     Kings, Mighty Ducks, Penguins and Canucks are all
     considering new uniform styles (WASHINGTON POST, 2/2).
