STADIUM NOTES

"Dissatisfied" with Mayor Norm Rice's proposal to keep
the Mariners in town, Seattle City Council members are
negotiating independently with the team. The city faces a
Monday deadline to agree to conditions set by the team
(SEATTLE TIMES, 1/9). But a SEATTLE TIMES editorial states
Rice offered a "sensible compromise" to the M's for paying
game-day costs. The proposal calls for the M's and the city
to split game-day police and traffic-control costs for the
first three years, and "during that time, the city will work
to reduce the costs and then pick up that tab" (SEATTLE
TIMES, 1/9)....The MLB Giants named Rod Roche their Project
Manager for the construction of Pacific Bell Park (Giants).
...Denver Mayor Wellington Webb "ruled out" Stapleton
Airport as a site for a Broncos stadium, saying the city
will not submit the site as a location (DENVER POST, 1/10).
