RAPTORS' PEDDIE SAYS TEAM WILL "REDESIGN" BUILDING FOR LEAFS

          Raptors President Richard Peddie said that the Raptors
     are now willing "to redesign" the proposed Air Canada
     Centre, in order to accommodate the Maple Leafs, according
     to Craig Daniels of the TORONTO SUN.  Peddie: "We're making
     a decision here that's gonna affect (the Raptors and Maple
     Leafs) for 25 or 50 years.  We're prepared to delay a couple
     of months to redesign, if that's the case."  The redesigning
     will involve reducing seating capacity to 19,500 from 22,500
     and "drastically revamping existing sightlines."  Daniels
     also adds the Raptors face NBA's penalties for their delays
     in arena construction.  Peddie: "We'll put a shovel in the
     ground and then we'll go chat with the NBA.  ... they'll be
     understanding" (TORONTO SUN, 1/10).  David Israelson of the
     TORONTO STAR writes the teams "will decide within about two
     weeks whether they can live together" (TORONTO STAR, 1/10).
