PATRIOTS LOOK TO SOLVE TRAFFIC WORRIES OVER NEW STADIUM

One day after South Boston politicians expressed that
residential traffic was their main fear of a proposed new
Patriots stadium, backers of the project commissioned a
study to show that game-day traffic can be confined to
highways and mass-transit, according to David Halbfinger in
the BOSTON GLOBE. Patriots Owner Robert Kraft and Massport
officials want to show that with roughly $2B in
infrastructure improvements already underway near the
stadium site, the project would not be "the nightmare
residents dread." With more than 70% of Patriots' season
ticketholders living near public transportation and Foxboro
not accessible to mass transit, stadium backers said
extending the transitway could put as many as 8,000 fans on
mass transit. To deal with the nearly 4,000 fans who would
drive, Kraft has hired traffic engineering firm Frederic R.
Harris to develop possible solutions (BOSTON GLOBE, 12/12).
