MLB NEWS: DEAL DELIVERED; SAME TEAMS PAY OUT BIG BUCKS

MLBPA Exec Dir Donald Fehr and management negotiator
Randy Levine signed a 12-page memo of agreement on MLB's new
     labor agreement (USA TODAY, 12/10).
HOLIDAY SHOPING: From the MLB's winter meetings,
ESPN's Peter Gammons noted the lucrative deals, especially
for pitching, since the new CBA was signed. Gammons: "The
new agreement has obviously sparked some of this
inflationary fire. But so has the specter of two big
spending expansion teams in Phoenix and Tampa Bay."
Phillies President Bill Giles: "It's scary, we're in the 4th
largest market in the country and we have a hard time
breaking even with a very mediocre payroll. I don't know
how some of these clubs do it" ("SportsCenter," ESPN,
12/9)....The Yankees payout for winning the World Series was
$216,870.08 per share. The Braves share was $143,678.36.
The players pool, 80% of gate receipts from the first three
games of the Divisional Series and 60% of the gate from the
LCS and World Series, was divided among 12 clubs. It was
$25,477,808.09, a record from previous high in '95 (MLB).
