PICABO STREET ADS SIDELINED BY NIKE

          Nike is "expected" to drop the "Sister Slope" campaign
     it developed around Olympic-medal-winner Picabo Street, due
     to an injury that has left her sidelined for "at least" six
     months, according to AD AGE.  Nike said Picabo "remains an
     integral part of its women's sports and 1998 Olympic
     marketing plans" (AD AGE ONLINE, 12/9).
          SKIING NEWS & NOTES:  At Ski Industry Week 1996, Aspen
     High School students told ski company execs that the sport
     "leaves teenagers cold," according to Penny Parker of the
     DENVER POST.  17-year-old Ryan Elston: "The ski industry
     doesn't seem like it cares about younger people.  Skiing is
     for older people.  Extreme skiing, you get more air and it's
     younger."   Student Lindsy Thornburg: "The clothes and
     attitude in snowboarding is different.  It's the cool thing
     to do.  I like riding for myself and with my friends.  I
     stopped skiing because it wasn't fun" (DENVER POST, 12/6).
     ....After operating losses of $56M in '95 on sales of $400M,
     Head-Tyrolia-Mares (HTM), the Austrian sports equipment
     maker, will post a small surplus this year and a profits of
     $15M in '97 (FINANCIAL TIMES, 12/7).
