DOES INDY NEED COLTS MORE THAN COLTS NEED INDY?

     If not for the Colts, Marion County, IN annual economy would
decline by "at least" $37.5M, according to a report prepared by
Coopers & Lybrand, commissioned by the Indianapolis Professional
Sports and Arts Task Force, and cited by Gerry Lanosga of the
INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS.  In addition to the economic impact, the
Colts also account for $1.2M in annual county tax revenues.  A
earlier study by another consultant put the direct spending
attributable to the Pacers at $34.6M annually, a figure which is
being used by a subcommittee of the Task Force in considering
options for a new Pacers arena.  Lanosga notes  there has been
"no talk" of a new facility for the Colts as their RCA Dome lease
runs through 2014 (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 10/15).
