WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A $20M INFUSION? CSN SETS STRATEGY

The $20M investment of Warburg, Pincus Ventures last week
into Classic Sports Network will enable the channel to increase
its focus on marketing, according to Michael Burgi of MEDIAWEEK.
Brian Bedol, President of CSN, noted the infusion of capital
"gives us an opportunity to turn up the heat on marketing. We've
barely done that." Some of the money will be spent on original
programming and "sources close to the network said that CSN has
signed Magic Johnson to do a series" (MEDIAWEEK, 9/9 issue).
MEDIAWEEK NOTES: Sources put USA's deal with the USTA for
the U.S. Open through 2002 at about $80M, more than a 50%
increase over USA's last six year deal....The World Series on Fox
is "about" 75% sold (MEDIAWEEK, 9/9 issue).
