CHISOX CONTINUE TO BE BAFFLED AT LACK OF ATTENDANCE

In Chicago, Dave Van Dyck looks at the White Sox' inability
to draw crowds and generate revenue. Rob Gallas, White Sox
VP/Marketing, admitted the team is "looking for answers" to their
attendance woes, adding, "We'd like to find out why, with a good
team and working as hard as we can to be fan-friendly." Team
officials claim they are not "going to come close" to making
money this season and one source said the team may lose $10M "or
more for the third year in a row." The team will hire a firm and
spend an estimated $50,000 to do a customer survey and Gallas
indicated the survey would include studies of "traffic patterns
and starting times" of the games. Van Dyck notes the perception
in Chicago that Comiskey "is just not an 'in' place to be ... [a]
perception being passed around at bars and on radio shows"
(CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 8/23).
