NO OLD MAN IN THIS SEA: ISLANDERS NEW RADIO DEAL ROCKS

The Islanders signed a three-year radio deal with rock
station WLIR-FM, "which has promised coverage from Montauck to
Manhattan and a major promotional pitch" to its 22-36-year-old
listeners, according to Steve Zipay of NEWSDAY. WLIR will use
players "in every promotion" and give away blocks of tickets to
many home games. The Islanders had two years left on its
contract with WRCN-AM, but when that station's new ownership
announced a switch to a country-music format, the club requested
and received a release from their deal. Islanders
VP/Communication Pat Calabria: "WLIR improves our coverage on the
Island and in the boroughs, and we like the format and the
demographics." The team and station will share revenues in the
deal (NEWSDAY, 8/22).
