LOAN ENSURES MONTREAL WILL COMPLETE CFL SEASON

     The CFL Montreal Alouettes received a cash loan of about
C$1M from investors that will enable the team to meet its August
payroll and complete the season, according to Bill Beacon in the
Toronto GLOBE & MAIL.  Alouettes Owner Jim Speros explained the
city of Montreal never came through with a promised loan of
C$2.75M for moving the team from Baltimore after last year.  A
grant of C$1.375M from  Montreal is expected next month, at the
earliest.  Speros also indicated that he "hopes to announce a
new, local investor in the club" today (CP/Toronto GLOBE & MAIL,
8/21).
