LEAGUE NOTES

     Cowboys QB Troy Aikman said he could be fined again by the
NFL for shoes he wore in Saturday's exhibition game against
Denver.  He has already been fined $40,000 this preseason for not
correctly covering the adidas logo on his shoes.  Aikman: "I've
done everything they've asked me to do and they still fine me.
...I don't know what's going to happen" (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM,
8/20)....All three World Cup of Hockey dates at Ottawa's Corel
Center "appear well on the way" to being sellouts (OTTAWA
CITIZEN, 8/20)....USA TODAY's Jerry Langdon writes that MLS's
decision to expand in '98 and 2004 "will delay" the league's goal
of being one of the top soccer leagues in the world (USA TODAY,
8/20).  Already a major MLS investor, Lamar Hunt, has first
option on one of the league's expansion teams, and could be the
owner of a Chicago franchise (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 8/20).
...Speculation is that the WTA office in St. Petersburg, FL "will
soon close" and be run at its headquarters in Stamford, CT.  WTA
Tour Communications Dir Joe Favorito denied the rumors, saying
the operations branch will stay in St. Petersburg (TAMPA TRIBUNE,
8/20).
