SNAGS CONTINUE IN TAMPA AS LEASE DEADLINE APPROACHES

Due to issues which have "complicated" negotiations,
Hillsborough County and Tampa Sports Authority officials conceded
Thursday's deadline to finish a lease with the Bucs on a new
stadium will "probably" be missed, according to Joe Henderson of
the TAMPA TRIBUNE. Backers of a half-cent sales tax increase to
pay for the facility have "stressed" the lease needs to be
finished and approved by the September 3 referendum. One issue
involves the amount of input Bucs Owner Malcolm Glazer will have
over final approval of stadium designs. A second "complication"
involves the sale of land near the proposed stadium to the
Hillsborough County Aviation Authority. The Authority thought it
had a "clean deal" to sell the land for $19M (with the money
going toward stadium construction) and then lease the land back
for stadium parking. But, potential changes in FAA regulations
could prevent such parking -- thus causing the loss of about
2,000 spaces (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 8/14).
