MURDOCH TAKES ON THE WORLD: NEWS CORP. CHAIR PROFILED

News Corp. Chair Rupert Murdoch is featured in an extensive
profile in today's N.Y. TIMES under the header "Murdoch Bets
Heavily on a Global Vision." Murdoch's goal is to "own every
major form of programming, news, sports, films and children's
shows -- and beam them via satellite or TV stations to homes in
the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America." The piece
chronicles previous deals and future plans, including an all-news
channel. Despite some "losses and risks," most believe "it is
unlikely that the new spate of deals could again put the News
Corporation into jeopardy" (Geraldine Fabrikant, N.Y. TIMES,
7/29)
