NBC KEEPS ITS HEAD ABOVE THE 20-RATING MARK

     Preliminary overnight numbers show that NBC gained a 24.7
rating and a 42 share for last night's prime time coverage.
Daytime figures were 8.3/27, and late night gained a 9.7/31.
NOTE:  As these numbers are preliminary overnights, they may not
match later figures cited either by the network or other news
outlets (THE DAILY).
     PRIME MONDAY:  Tuesday night's prime-time earned a 27.2
national rating and a 47 share, the highest rated Olympic event
telecast since Montreal '76.  The rating was a 33% increase from
the first Tuesday in Barcelona and NBC Research estimates that 99
million watched all or parts of the telecast.  The cumulative
Atlanta rating is a 22.9/43, 26% better than Barcelona through
the same day.  As for female viewers on Tuesday, NBC gained a
19.8 rating among Women 18-34 (15.5 cumulative) and a 20.9 among
Women 25-54 (17.0 cumulative).  The ratings for Women 18-34 are
up 38% from Barcelona, while Women 25-54 are up 27% (NBC Sports).

gymnastics competition on the schedule, to be "the highest-rated
night of the Games" (MIAMI HERALD, 7/25).
