WELLINGTON WON'T LET BRONCOS BUCK DENVER

A site-selection committee appointed last week to study
locations for a new Broncos stadium could hold its first meeting
as early as August. Thus far, the group has one imperative from
Denver Mayor Wellington Webb: The Denver Broncos have to remain
"the Denver Broncos." Lynn Bartels of the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS
reports Webb is planning on making the Broncos honor their
contract with the city that lasts until 2018. Webb: "This mayor
will not release the Broncos from their contract to build a
stadium that is not in Denver." The CO Legislature approved a
bill authorizing a vote on a tax hike for the $250M stadium that
Owner Pat Bowlen is seeking (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 7/24).
