BASEBALL LOOKING AHEAD TO FEBRUARY 2000 IN SYDNEY

ESPN's Peter Gammons predicted MLB players will participate
in the 2000 Sydney Games, probably in a "one-time deal" since
they will be held in February. Gammons: "Eventually, what
you'll see is that there will be a World Cup in baseball and I
think that will come probably in March every third year. That
will be a tremendous event when you have the Pacific Rim cabled
and all the rest. ... It will be a real turning point for
baseball marketing worldwide" ("Baseball Tonight," ESPN, 7/22).
