     The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's web site, "Atlanta
Games," recorded 561,640 hits on Day One, up from an average of
about 200,000 daily hits a week ago (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION,
7/21)....ACOG officials have found no evidence of ticket
forgeries thus far, but they are on guard (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION,
7/21)....Michael Moran of Daiwa Securities America notes $2-3B in
Olympic related expenditures in Atlanta, plus related travel
costs.  Olympic spending could raise the U.S. economy's third
quarter growth rate by a maximum of .5%, but probably less.  The
biggest impact is more to be in monthly statistics such as
employment numbers and restaurant sales (BUSINESS WEEK, 7/29
issue)....Ted Turner, not carrying his ID, was delayed getting
into CNN Center on Friday since security officials did not
recognize him with his new beard and would not let him in.
Eventually, the head of CNN security convinced the guard that
Turner was who he claimed to be (WASHINGTON POST, 7/21)....A
giant monitor next to the Georgia Dome from an IBM Aptiva
computer in Atlanta displays e-mail for athletes from fans around
the world (N.Y. TIMES, 7/21)....Sunday's N.Y. TIMES Olympic Diary
notes the quest for the definition of "redneck."  Matthias
Baumann, an Olympic visitor from Germany:  "Someone who does not
take part in business" (N.Y. TIMES, 7/21)....ACOG organizers
stripped the Journal-Constitution of five of its six photo passes
for the Opening Ceremony after the paper published unauthorized
pictures of a rehearsal (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/20)....Mitch Albom:
"The only banned substance here is Pepsi" ("Sports Reporters,"
ESPN, 7/21)....NEWSDAY's Mark Hermann notes traffic at the Games
is moving at two speeds:  "slow and stop" (NEWSDAY, 7/22).
