FOR MILWAUKEE COMMITTEE, MILLER PARK GOES DOWN SMOOTH

A Milwaukee Common Council committee voted 6-2 to approve a
$15M stadium loan that left stadium backers "extremely
optimistic" the $250M Miller Park will be built, according to the
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. The loan will be secured by a $3.85M
"annual maintenance and repair contribution," some of which city
officials want placed in escrow overseen by a trustee who would
make sure the loan is repaid (Mike Nichols, MILWAUKEE JOURNAL
SENTINEL, 7/20).
LENDERS ANON: If the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of
Commerce assembles and acts as the sole lender of the business
community's loan, the names of individuals and companies that
helped raise $14M may not be made public. Under a plan formed in
June, officials and business leaders agreed the loan would be
funneled through "a quasi-public agency," the city's Milwaukee
Economic Development Corp. (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 7/20).
