MAVS LOOKING FOR STAR POWER WITH MICHAEL JOHNSON INVESTMENT

     The ownership group of the Mavericks are reportedly talking
with Olympic sprinter Michael Johnson of Dallas about becoming a
celebrity minority owner, according to Richie Witt of the FT.
WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM.  Johnson, who is favored to win gold medals
in the 200 and 400 meter races, "hinted" he has had talks about
buying approximately 1% of the franchise.  Johnson:  "I've always
liked basketball, and I'm excited about the team's new ownership.
That could be some fun."  Johnson is an acquaintance of Mavs co-
Owner Frank Zaccanelli.  Owners Ross Perot, Jr. and David McDavid
also plan to approach Fred Couples and Roger Staubach about
becoming minority owners (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 6/27).
