YANKEES STADIUM STUDY: THEY'LL TAKE MANHATTAN ...

A report on potential ballpark sites for a new Yankee
Stadium, obtained by USA TODAY, concludes that a $1.1B, 70,000-
seat Manhattan facility affording views of the midtown skyline
"would provide an unparalleled location for a professional
franchise." The study, prepared by K.C.-based HOK and
commissioned by the city, state and the Yankees, "dismissed" two
Bronx sites, citing environmental considerations. The study put
the cost of building a new ballpark next to the current Yankee
Stadium at $945M and pegged renovations of the Stadium and its
surroundings at $770M (Tom Pedulla, USA TODAY, 6/27). Yankees
Owner George Steinbrenner called the results "very strong and
powerful" evidence that "we should be out of the Bronx."
Steinbrenner said a decision would be made on the club's fate
within "a month to two months." He also confirmed he has talked
with Donald Trump about helping to finance a Manhattan stadium
(David Lewis, N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 6/27).
