NIKE AND REEBOK IN COMPETITION FOR OLYMPIC SPRINTER

Nike and Reebok are "in a race" to sponsor sprinter Ato
Boldon, Trinidad and Tobago's "best hope" for an Olympic gold
medal, according to the BOSTON GLOBE. Nike reportedly offered
Boldon an annual salary of $175,000 that would rise to $200,000
if he wins the gold in the 100-meters in Atlanta. Reebok has
offered an annual salary of $150,000, which could rise to
$225,000 if Boldon wins the gold. Boldon said earlier
negotiations "broke down" with Nike after they "insisted" he not
reach a $30,000 verbal agreement with Oakley Inc. Reebok would
not require Boldon to drop the Oakley offer (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/18).
