BREWERS NEW BALLPARK FIGURE: $313 MILLION

A new Brewers stadium set to open in 2000 will now cost
$313M, with an additional $36M needed to get it built by the
original '99 date, according to Kenneth Lamke of the MILWAUKEE
JOURNAL SENTINEL. Only $250M can be spent on the stadium under
the financing adopted last fall, and Brewers VP Laurel Prieb said
changes will be made in the design to lower the price to $250M.
WI Secretary of Administration James Klauser blames the Brewers'
design change from an open air facility to a domed one as the
cause for the price jump, but he said the new cost estimates are
"not a deal killer." Klauser: "There's even talk of closing the
roof on cool sunny days and heating the stadium with the roof
open. That blows me off my chair" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL,
6/13).
