IVERSON LANDS ON REEBOK'S PLANET, REJECTS NIKE ROOTS

Georgetown's Allen Iverson has agreed to a marketing deal
with Reebok, according to a report in the Newport News (VA) DAILY
PRESS. A spokesperson for Iverson's agent, David Falk, said an
announcement could come as early as today. Reebok officials
declined to comment. Iverson had been expected to sign with
Nike. He attended an Indianapolis Nike summer camp in '92,
during which Nike paid for him to fly home to VA for his well-
publicized trial, and then back to Indianapolis for the camp's
conclusion. Georgetown head basketball coach John Thompson is
also on Nike's Board of Directors (David Teel, Newport News DAILY
PRESS, 6/11). The report was confirmed by a joint release from
Reebok and Falk's agency, F.A.M.E., this morning (THE DAILY).
AVIA SALE COMPLETE: Reebok announced yesterday that the
sale of substantially all of the assets and businesses of its
subsidiary, Avia Group Int'l, has been finalized to American
Sporting Goods Corp. The price was not disclosed for the deal
which was first announced on April 23 (Reebok).
