OLYMPIC FESTIVAL STILL IN THE HOLE TO COLORADO OFFICIALS

The CO Economic Development Commission, which loaned the
privately-operated Colorado Sports Council (CSC) $200,000 to
stage the '95 Olympic Festival, is seeking repayment, according
to the Boulder DAILY CAMERA. Former CSC official Tim Leiweke,
now President of the L.A. Kings, is handling the issue on behalf
of the Festival, even though he does not sit on the board and is
no longer with the CSC. Leiweke said the loan would be repaid in
full and that the USOC has "stepped in to assist." Leiweke said
the USOC would like to see the development commission sell an
Olympic program to raise money for Olympic hopefuls and retire
the loan. One program Leiweke suggested was an "Olympic rings
license plate." The Festival has since been discontinued (Carl
Hillard, AP/Boulder DAILY CAMERA, 6/8).
