JUAN ANTONIO SAMARANCH PROFILED IN THE WASHINGTON POST

IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch is profiled by William
Drozdiak in the WASHINGTON POST. He writes that two months
before the Atlanta Games, Samaranch is "savoring" the kind of
good life that seemed "unimaginable" 16 years ago when the
Olympic movement was "hovering on the brink of extinction."
Drozdiak notes Samaranch is most proud of how the Games have been
transformed from an "extravagant burden" to a "marketing
bonanza." Samaranch: "My most important goal is to keep unity.
... There are 197 countries and 45 sports federations, and some
of them have more economic power than we do. ... we gained our
stature by keeping the Olympic movement united" (WASHINGTON POST,
5/31).
